DAVID GRAY

David Gray currently lives right here in St Mawes, but he began his art training at Coventry College of Art and Design, studying Technical Illustration.

His work reflects his earlier career as a Design Draughtsman - Illustrator, working mainly in engineering, and when he moved to the South West in 1970 into the boat construction industry. He now lives and paints in St Mawes, looking out over the same views as the St Mawes Gallery. He has had many solo exhibitions and work is constantly on show in galleries in Cornwall and Devon.

David enjoys the process of painting, the medium being acrylic on board or canvas (together with torn material on larger paintings, such as jeans with buttons and zips ) embedded into the texture. Paint is applied in layers and glazes with knives, cloths, fingers, rubbing and scraping to give a distressed effect which is then pulled together in the final stages.
